Raw Honey – It’s all the buzz

The Adee’s describe raw honey as the best honey that money can buy. It’s honey straight from the hive that comes directly from the honeycomb during the extraction process. Our beekeepers remove the frames of honey from the hives and place them into our extracting equipment. The honey is spun around at high speeds which removes the honey from the comb. The extracted honey is then spun again to further separate the comb particles from the honey before being stored in 55-gallon drums.

Since raw honey is not heavily filtered, some pollens and beeswax particles may remain in the honey. This gives raw honey a “cloudier” appearance in comparison to honey that has been filtered and heated. Additionally, you will find that raw honey tends to crystalize quicker.

Filtered honey

The main difference between raw and filtered honey is how the product is processed following extraction. In this particular process, the honey is heated so it can be more easily filtered. Filtration removes the air bubbles and pollen and wax fragments from the honey; giving it a smooth, silky appearance.

Benefits of Raw Honey

Honey straight from the hive contains many beneficial nutrients! Raw honey naturally contains impurities like bits of pollen or propolis. These natural elements contain anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. Raw honey is also full of enzymes, antioxidants, and vitamins. Filtered honey can lose many of these properties when it undergoes a heating process - which can destroy many of raw honey’s beneficial nutrients. As such, if you enjoy a spoonful of honey to soothe a sore throat, raw honey is the way to go.

At this point in the blog, you may be wondering what type of honey we have in our jars? We believe the less processing the better.  Our honey is gently warmed and filtered to remove any natural debris that may end up in the honey when extracting.  At the end of the day, when you purchase Adee Honey, you can be rest assured that you are getting the best honey product out there!
